Just one mile outside the village of Bruichladdich and ideally located for exploring the island further, Gortan Cottage is your home from home on Islay. Situated on the edge of Lochindaal with breathtaking views over to the paps of Jura and across to the Mull of Oa, the cottage is wonderfully comfortable and welcoming, perfect for up to six guests.

The accommodation comprises three bedrooms - one king size, one double and one twin, along with a family bathroom, a separate shower room and toilet, a spacious and comfortable living room with open peat fire, large fully equipped dining kitchen and large sunroom to the front of the house. A travelcot (bedding not supplied) is kept in the twin room cupboard if required.

Make yourself at home. All linen and towels are provided and there is adjustable oil central heating. The living room has an open fire and we can provide enough wood, peat and coal to get you started. In addition to comfortable leather seating, the living room also offers a flat screen TV with Freeview channels and a DVD player. A selection of DVDs and games are also provided for your use.

The large dining/kitchen provides ample space for cooking and entertaining with an extendable dining table, comfortably seating six guests. Appliances for guest use include a double oven and an electric hob, fridge-freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, dishwasher and washing machine.
The cottage has a grassed, walled garden to the front with ample room for kids to play safely or for grown-ups to enjoy the views. Adjacent to this is a separate area for drying clothes. The cottage also has a large parking area suitable for up to four cars.

How to get here

By Ferry
Caledonian MacBrayne operate a ferry service between Kennacraig and Port Ellen or Port Askaig. Full timetables for the ferry service and booking details are available on the CalMac website. During peak season it is advisable to book your desired ferry journey as early as possible. Scottish Citylink operate a bus service from Glasgow to Kennacraig which links with ferry crossings.

By Plane
Loganair fly from Glasgow airport to Islay airport, situated just over five miles from Bowmore. The flight time is around 30 minutes. Timetables for these and other flights are available on the Loganair website or you can contact Loganair Reservations by phone on 0344 800 2855.

By Car
From Glasgow take the A82 Loch Lomond. follow the A83 around Loch Fyne heading to Tarbert. Kennacraig is located approximately six miles south of Tarbert. Travel time from Glasgow by car is approximately two hours. You can then take your car across to Islay on the ferry or park it at the ferry terminal.
From Port Askaig
Follow the road (A846) from Port Askaig to Bridgend. Turn right at the T Junction at Bridgend for Bruichladdich (A847). Follow this road for five miles. Once you have passed the turning to Kilchoman you will take the first right and Gortan Self catering is the first house on the right.
From Port Ellen (or Airport)
Follow the (A846) to Bowmore. Drive through Bowmore towards Bridgend. Turn left at the T junction at Bridgend (just after the hotel) heading towards Bruichladdich (A847). Follow this road for five miles. Once you have passed the turning to Kilchoman you will take the first right and Gortan Self catering is the first house on the right.
